Rust in piece.

I haven't had much time to work on the Mini.  Switching jobs abruptly took the wind out of my sails, but, at least I am working from home again 100%.

This last weekend I had the goal of simply moving the darn thing into a better position on the driveway from where the tow truck dumped it.  But the brakes were locked up.  So, figured that was a good place to start.

There's a fair amount of rust, but, I was able to back the shoes off from the drum by turning the star adjusters.  After that, it was able to roll... kind of.  All four tires are of course flat!
I don't think the floor carpeting and foam is salvageable..
Driver side floor panel is pretty rusted, not sure if its savable.
Passenger side however is shot.  Its hard to see, but, there's a rusted through hole where you can see the concrete below.  So, at some point, a new floor panel will have to be spot welded into place.

  1. I have a Mini on a 69 VW pan. Great car. Anyone interested in an owners club?

  2. I would be interested in *anything* regarding this car. From what I understand there's maybe 50 of these these cars left on the road.

The body on this one looks to be a fine shape other than needing a nice paint job. Fiberglass doesn't rust.. :) everything else seems to indicate a '70 pan and so should be easy to find parts for.

I have a long way to go but I would love to get any body who has one (or similar) together somehow. Where are you located?

  3. I live in Northwest Indiana close to Chicago. (an hour from Bremen as well) Try Mid America VW, C1P and Pacific Customs VW they will have most of what you need to bottom and up. Many of the upper parts are VW as well. I am doing a ground up rebuild on mine as well, down to body and paint now, pan and engine done. It is a sound car and looker. I have tried to contact the owners of Bremen, but they won't talk much. There was a fire in 82 and they left debt to suppliers. Rumor has it there were around 100 made and 50 still on the road. I have uncovered probably 20 in pics on the web, a few have gone through Barrett Jackson. I will be glad to answer any questions you may have, and have pics of my rebuild.
